Next week, Sara and me are heading out to the “Troost Corridor” to start a new project. We’re going to begin analyzing a huge swath of territory, block by block, building by building, in an attempt to learn more about the area and discover any nuggets that might be sleeping along the street (and by nuggets we mean cool buildings or infrastructure long forgotten).
Maybe foolishly, we both think the Troost Corridor could be quite awesome, one day (especially as a case study in urban revitalization). We see little peaks of it here and there (UMKC and Rockhurts are awesome anchors) – there are incredible buildings, long since forgotten, sprinkled along the path. I suppose I’ve always taken Troost for granted. That’s to say, it’s always freaked me out. When I was first looking for apartments, I was warned to stay away from both Troost and its larger cross street, Armour. And what do you know – we’re going against both of those statements and looking at potential projects in both areas. Screw white-flight based caution, right?
Stay tuned. Next week we hope to come back with a fresh set of Troost pics as we begin documenting our adventure. About a year ago we did the same rather half baked thing in the Hyde Park area, except that we were just out photographing and exploring. If you’re curious, go here to see those image.
Is there anything in particular we should keep our eyes out for?
